ARTWORKS
Installation, 1995, factory-made tent of variable sizes with hand-embroidered patches on the inner surface (destroyed in a fire at Momart warehouses in 2004).
At Sensation, which Tracey Emin participated in at the beginning of her career, she exhibited a tent in which she had embroidered the names of family members, friends and lovers she had slept with. In this work, which attracted a great deal of attention, Emin openly expresses her sexuality and her view on the issue of sexuality in a reactive language and a transparent approach. On the other hand, this work, structured within a discourse of confession, is considered a controversial performance that presents the privacy of an extraordinary personality in the public sphere through a visual language integrated with embroidery aesthetics.

Tracey Emin exhibits her bed, soiled with bodily fluids and in a disorganized state, as a medium for expressing her anger and pain. This traumatic scene, presented as a direct and jarring reality with its emphasis on illness and sexuality, is characterized by its post-feminist discourse. Declaring an uncomfortably private and personal experience, My Bed is an iconic work with a power of influence that defines Emin’s overall approach to art. Nominated for the 1999 Turner Prize, a version of My Bed was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in 2021.

Young British Artists is the name of a group movement initiated in 1992 by students at Goldsmith College in London. This movement soon attracted the attention of experts such as academics Michael Craig Martin and Norman Rosenthal, and was supported by the famous advertiser and collector Charles Saatchi. Unabashedly using found objects, unusual objects and images that disturb the viewer, the YBAs artists made their big breakthrough in 1997 with a comprehensive exhibition called Sensation, held at the Royal Academy of Arts halls. The YBAs movement and the Sensation exhibition made London one of the most important centers of world art once again.
